Isaac paused to think. There was a glimmer of hope, though the prospect wasn't great. Either getting stuck in this place, or becoming a pirate himself. That wasn't like him, he was a decent man – at least until he fell for a quick-cash scam.

He raised his voice. "I...I have to think about it."

The nurse raised his brow. "O...kay... First of all, you know I'm just a nurse, Haul, not a doctor. And while I don't...think you should stick people up your snatch, we can do an ultrasound. Lie down."

Despite the small examination bed, it was sturdy enough to handle all of Haul's weight crashing down at once. The nursed looked over at Haul, only to find that the lemur was fast asleep from his heavy drinking.

"Oh great. Now I'm stuck with this thing on my check-up table, for who knows how long..."

"Hey...psst!" A muffled voice called out to him quietly. One that he could've sworn was coming from inside that expansive womb... "Is he asleep?"

"Oh hey. You're actually inside of him, huh. You mean Haul, right? Yeah, he's knocked out cold. Too much to drink, I think. How long have you been in there?"

"I-I, umm, I think almost two weeks?" Isaac answered.

"Wow. You must be a freak to stay that long. Or a liar."

"Wh-What? No! I need you to get me out of here, before he realizes!"

The eel leaned back on his chair. "And risk getting on his bad side? No way, I'd rather he didn't kill me or turned me into sushi."

Standing next to his Centaurus Commander T-Series A-II Deluxe and its busted landing gear, Haul had his arms crossed as he looked down. Trying to negotiate with the only mechanic in the Renegade while hangover – and broke – wasn't the best way to start his day.

"T'ere's no fuckin' way repairs is gonna cost t'at much."

"W-Well," the apprehensive rat replied to the towering lemur, "we'll have to replace the parts, you see! It's such an old ship that we'll need to print them ourselves."

The lemur was surprised, as well. "Well now! Look who's on speakin' terms again."

"The damage wasn't too bad when I checked," the sergal continued calmly. "Just a couple of broken wires and some re-plating. I can do it for you if you let me out."

"No." He had an incisive, clear tone. "I also want half of the credits you make on your next job as payment."

"Come on, I heard you rambling earlier about needing more credits. And you can't get off the ground until the ship is fixed, right? Would you rather trust a former mechanic from the famous Mikreeonon, or some lousy guy who doesn't even know what's wrong with your ship?"

Haul snickered. He was starting to enjoy this new side of his toy. "Keh... Alright, Lil' Papa. If it's a bargain ya want... I can give ya 10 percent."

"Thirty," the womb-bound sergal countered.

As he replaced the power cables, the sergal stole some glances around him. The Renegade wasn't such a large space station, but everything felt bigger once you'd spent long enough in a primate's womb. Some other mean, less kind pirate could simply kidnap him, and then Isaac would find himself as part of the slave trade, which both Duàn and the Federation seemed to turn a blind eye to.

Hmm... Less kind pirate? In all honesty, he'd be hard-pressed to call Haul "kind" by any measure, but there was a semblance of trust that he seemed to share with the pirate. Maybe the nurse had been right that he should count himself lucky to be on his good side, given that he never got hurt by him. And if he tried to escape, who knows what Haul might do in his ire?

At least, the lemur could offer him protection from anyone else in here, even though he disagreed with his methods. But Isaac couldn't really reconcile the whole piracy thing with his self-image. Albeit, frankly, what other choice did he have...? This galaxy had used and mistreated him. Maybe it was time to own up his destiny from outside the system...

He finished soldering the golden plates back on the landing gear, making his patchwork invisible from afar. For the terrible choices he'd made in the past, at least he could still rely on his skills. He may not be a pirate, through and through, but an in-flight mechanic? Yeah, he could get behind that...

...Crap, now he was actually considering staying with Haul – if only for the rational benefits outweighing the negatives. At least he'd be untouchable with the meanest pirate around by his side, right?

Hmm... Now that he thought about it, the spaceship's entrance hatch was also busted, wasn't it? The lemur always had to slam it open and shut when moving around with him inside, and that could be a serious problem in the vacuum of space. Perhaps Haul wouldn't mind it if Isaac spent a few more minutes fixing that, too...

"I was also fixing the hatch", he answered dryly. "It could become a problem down the line."

"I also saw some internal electricals that could do with some maintenance. The cargo hold especially would bene–"
